Looking up to equip my Thinkpad desk setup - mouse&KB suggestions needed
Looking up to equip my Thinkpad desk setup - mouse&KB suggestions needed
Hello,
I must say I do not use a desktop KB very often, but would like to ask you guys for opinions.
As for the mouse, my to-go is Logitech MX Master as I use it for CAD for several years, and am very happy.
As for cordless keyboard... I don't have a clue! I wanted to ask for opinions and get to know what you are using.

I use Lenovo Enhanced Performance USB keyboards; they are not cordless though. The keyboard is great, but the media buttons suck. Seriously considering getting the DAS Keyboard 4 Professional Brown Cherry MX switches keyboard with that awesome volume wheel, which is also not cordless. I don't dig cordless keyboards...

Well I've got one, bought new some couple of years ago. If this one had the trackpoint I'd skip the "cordless" requirement.

Got one of these: Tyrfing V2 87/88-Key RGB Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
I never use the numpad, mine has a UK-layout and I have set my backlight to baby-blue.
Using the KB-software, I changed the PgDn key into a second Enter-key.
I don't game but I like the small KB size.
And it was only $59.99 new, incl. shipping from China.
I still use a wired USB-mouse, a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0.
That thing is almost indestructible, even after about 12 years of use!
I'll soon be changing from desktop to a T440p with dock, external monitor and above KB and mouse.

Cordless? Well I mean if you want to trade cordless for track point there is always the Unicomp EnduraPro series...made by ex-IBMers themselves.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

For such a die-hard thinkpad Fan like yourself I recommend you to try SK-8855 or even 8845. I have both variants in my collection and I have been using a new version for over two years. It's light, portable, keys have proper response and trackpoint works great - far better than these you can find in newer thinkpads.

Not cordless, but I use a Model M keyboard from 1989 on one of my T510's. It is mostly for convenience so I can keep the lid closed on my workbench. It also has a 22" monitor in use.

I'd love to sport any of them if the prices were not so insane. $100+ is a big hit.

Re: Looking up to equip my Thinkpad desk setup - mouse&KB suggestions needed
A mouse is of course almost essential and I have cordless mice by Logitech and MS which both work fine despite being cheap.
But a separate keyboard, on a TP? Heresy! I do miss not having a numeric keypad with my TPs, but a small standalone item works quite well.
My main work-space consists of a W530, numeric KP, mouse, and 24" monitor on an arm situated just above the laptop screen. When video-editing, the numeric is replaced by a Shuttlepro.

If you want to do any kind of gaming on a Thinkpad, you must have an external keyboard. In terms of key rollover (simultaneous keypresses), Thinkpad keyboards suck, just like most (all?) laptop keyboards - many 3-key combinations make them jam.

Re: Looking up to equip my Thinkpad desk setup - mouse&KB suggestions needed
OK, understood. I am not a gamer, so not an issue for me.
Re: Looking up to equip my Thinkpad desk setup - mouse&KB suggestions needed
Me neither, but for the sake of ergonomy, working on 2x 24" Thinkvisions using internal keyboard just won't work. Not to mention that some actions in CAd requires 3 keys hit the same time.
I got highly interested in both wired AND wireless TP keyboard with trackpoint. Those seem not to be available in Poland at all tho!
Need to investigate&dig a bit.

I've got Business Black Preferred Pro (bottom of the keyboard says P/N:41A5129) for my work desk and I am happy with it.
Daily drivers: x225 FrankenPad and t430. Thinkpad x301 overhaul+FSB mod.
