Disable google search AI overview?

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sun Aug 25, 2024 4:04 pm

I don't use Microsoft Edge Bing search, but have it set as (Home) google search like when google first came out. But now just like how Microsoft does with Bing uses AI search and shows it all at the top of the search results. And I even looked up how to disable it and google AI even starts replying that it isn't possible to fully turn it off. But if it seems like AI is taking over these search sites, I guess it is time to switch to another search site. Even Yahoo or even ask Jeeves for all I care. I already had to uninstall Copilot off windows 10 a 2nd time. Surprised Microsoft allowed the option to uninstall.

I don't care for AI and don't want it. I know basically it is for corporations to get rid of human workers that do basic tasks for AI to save money.

The AI replies are just giving you a read off of a maintenance manual. Restart your machine, make sure all wires are plugged in properly and so on.

Was looking up how to fix LCD broken/stuck pixels. I picked up a ThinkPad for $12. Didn't have the model number on it, so had to use the Type number and it shows it is a ThinkPad Edge 14. It is in very good condition, no battery or ram or HDD. Installed 2GB ram and powered on to see a black smudge on the screen. The shape is the same as this top image and in the same spot on screen. https://laptoprepairservicedubai.ae/how ... op-screen/. The LCD itself isn't cracked. I am running a pixel flash of RGB but doesn't look to be fixing it.

Time to start searching with DuckDuckGo.

Search for:
jscreenfix and/or jscreenfix deluxe
dead pixel buddy
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Late post, but I've found StartPage is a good alternative, gives you google results, but with (as far as I can tell) all of the AI garbage and tracking ripped out.

https://startpage.com/

Another good option is udm14, which just directs you to Google but with AI crap stripped out.

Both can be added as a default search provider pretty easily.

I tried DuckDuckGo for a while, but found myself constantly prepending !g to the search query to get results that were actually useful.
Proud Owner of at least one of each:
W520 (Daily Driver, and my introduction to ThinkPads!)
T520 (Well it's handy to have a backup system)
R40 (Light Retro Gaming, I wanted something with a 4:3 screen!)
Inevitably more to come.
