IPS CCFL desktop monitor in 2025 ?

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Sun Aug 31, 2025 6:09 pm

Yes, I know this sounds outlandish at best but...

Is anyone making a high-end monitor that is CCFL backlit nowadays ? There used to be some *really* nice ones - EIZO I believe - which were aimed at photographers and quite expensive once. LED panels had already become mainstream at the time that I'm referring to...which might have been a decade ago, I can't really recall.

Anything fairly recent ?

Thankful I am for all and any wisdom that you're willing to share.

With my desktop I still use a HP LP-1965 monitor with CCFL, 19", 1280x1024, don't think it's IPS.

Some oldies to check: Dell U2311H / U2410 / U3011, HP ZR22w, Eizo SX2462W

I don't think they make them anymore. The oldies recommended by RBS is what I would go for, if you can find one. Many of them are still alive and kicking. I have a U2410, a 2209WA, 2007FP and 2007WFP. All depends on the size and resolution you are looking for. There is also U2711.

I'm currently using a second-hand Eizo MX220W, which is a CCFL-backlit 22" VA LCD with 1920x1200 (16:10 !!) resolution. The label in the back shows a manufacture date of 2010/10/19. Granted it's not an IPS panel but almost as good, with great viewing angles and decent colors. It has one Displayport and two DVI inputs (one of which supports VGA input via a passive adapter). DVI inputs can accept HDMI via passive HDMI --> DVI adapter or cable (I've used both over the years and prefer the HDMI-DVI cable).

IIRC the larger MX241W is IPS https://www.ebay.com/itm/336054546600.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
