I recently learned that the latest Alienware 17 laptop has a 17.3" 2560x1440 option, corresponding to 169.8 DPI:

I still prefer the LG Gram 17's 17.0" 2560x1600, whose 177.6 DPI is also low enough that I wouldn't need scaling, but both are excellent resolutions for productivity on a laptop.
For 3840x2160 to work comfortably at the default scaling, I would want the screen to be at least 24" (183.6 DPI).
