File Server / File Sharing Mac and Windows

#1 Post by jon-smith2143 » Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:54 pm

Thanks in advance for any advice. We run a small web design business and are currently all running Mac computers. I am toying with the idea of switching to a Thinkpad because I had used one in the past. I was wondering if anyone has experience with Windows and Mac sharing Adobe Suite files well? Also do you have recommendations on a file server that will serve both platforms well? I really appreciate the support!

I don't deal much with sharing Apple servers to Windows anymore (not in over 5 years) but it's fairly common for us to connect Apple computers to Windows SMB shares. It's as simple as go->connect to server; smb://ip.of.server/share-name, and it's connected. File type is pretty transparent, so you can share and work with anything you like.

I know you can do the reverse (Windows connecting to shares on a Mac server) but there are some tricks to it - enabling proper file type support (SMB share support, IIRC) and such on the Apple system.
