My New Toy

#1 Post by TuuS » Thu Oct 07, 2021 12:08 pm

1953 Ford F600 4x4 36k original miles
Engine: Diesel 12 valve Cummins 37k original miles.
No rust
Transmission 5sp fully synchronized
Axles Dana 60 front w/disc 10 lug Dana 70 rear (dually) 10 lug.

Its going to be an overland recreational vehicle with a custom built truck camper.

This truck and the donor ram diesel were found in a silo on a farm where it was cleaned up and converted from a 6x4 farm truck to a 4x4 pickup. Original paint was faded but no rust or patina. Blended to match newly fabricated pickup bed but not repainted.

Really neat restomod. It's cool to see a somewhat-modern Cummins engine retrofitted into an old design like this.

Many years ago, I first learned to work on engines with the Ford 240/300 I-6. It made sh!t for horsepower but had low-end torque for days. Simple design from the early 60's, built for large trucks like this. I think they were manufactured until the early 2000's in New Holland tractors, as well as UPS trucks. Of course, like all great, reliable engines, Ford got rid of it in their product in the 90's for fuel efficiency when planned obsolescence was the latest marketing gimmick.

The Cummins 12V was the logical successor to that engine. Low RPM, reliable engine with lots of torque. I owned a Cummins 24-valve RAM about 15 years ago, but the body fell apart around the engine and it was scrapped. My dream was always to have a Cummins engine transplanted to an old Ford body, and it looks like you have one.

I hope this serves you well in your adventures.

Great stuff!
You should sell those front wheel covers to Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1!
It would teach Max Verstappen to start behaving!
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!
