Can IBM ThinkPad 600X have color depth 24?

Older ThinkPads from the 300, 500, 600, 700 Series, iSeries, Transnote etc.

You could have saved yourself (and us) a whole lot of hassle...
Well, I DO apologize for not knowing about all this before I had a chance to learn about it from all the helpful people in this and other forums.

None of your "searches" has even come up with the LCD manufacturer's name!
I take it from your quotation marks that you don't approve of the way I search. I will just have to live with that. I do my best with the skills I have. If you have a better way of searching, I would love to hear about it.

I 'm aware of that. Despite all my attempts.

Have you ever looked in the HMM of the 600X?
No. But not because of lack of interest, but because I have no idea that there is something called the HMM. When I Google now, I get "Heterogeneous Memory Management". Somehow, I get the feeling that you mean something else.

In there are 2 LCDs listed: (Samsung) 05K9546 and (LG) 05K9547.
A simple search on Google will find:
05K9546 = Samsung LT133X8-122, which has 262k colours (6-bit RGB = depth 18)
05K9547 = LG LP133X5-A2IB, which has 262k colours (6-bit RGB = depth 18)
Which means, neither of those screens has enough colours (16.7M) to have (8-bit RGB = depth 24).

So unless your 600X has a different LCD, the answer to your question is: NO.
So, now I know. Why didn't you tell me in the first place? Or at least tell me how to find it myself?

My Linux skills are fairly limited. A lot of the discussions i get pulled into are way beyond my skills. I have to spend a lot of time with Google. Maybe this forum is for those who already know. Maybe I'm in the wrong place.

Or, maybe you are...

HMM in this case means "Hardware Maintenance Manual", which contains disassembly instructions (and for the old models, the parts listing). Near the top of the page of this forum, just below the site banner, is a row of links, among them "HMM-Manuals", which leads to a repository of HMMs for older Thinkpad models, your 600X included.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons :lol:

@axur-delmeria
Thank you! I will definitely have a look there in the next few days.
