600e -No Dial Tone From Modem - No Net - No Downloads -Arrrg

Help!Please!

Got a good cheap 600e the other day,and doing okay with it,but have wasted a day trying to get it online to try to update everything.I have XP,but my COMs port#2 has been closed down by windows due to it "reporting problems,code 43" - I'm not sure which port that is.

I'd love to download a PC doctor or something,but can't get a dial tone,from two programs.The leads are fine.Maybe the port is the phone jack?

There are two fixes for the 600E modem problem under XP, the Microsoft fix (never worked for me) and the IBM fix (MWREGFIX.EXE). I don't have the URL for the IBM fix here at work so I'll try to remember to post it when I get home. You should be getting a modem error when you boot up???
