Thinkpad 750C I9990303 error (SOLVED)

#1 Post by ejp » Wed Aug 28, 2024 3:56 am

Hi guys,

Another example of a Thinkpad 750c with error i9990303. In the manual this refers to a faulty system board. The strange thing is it will boot from a floppy i created for a bios update. The program is called: System Program Service Diskette Version 1.43. I can select "2. Update system program". When i try to start i get an error "The system power management is disabled. The process has been canceled." I think this has something to do with a battery wich is not connected, but is there anyone with the same experience and possible solution?

If it can boot from a floppy then try a bootable dos diskette.

I just purchased a 750C on eBay with a cracked display, when I attached it to an external display and powered it on it gave me 161, 8611 and 163 POST codes, then went to the I9990303 error page. Similar to your case, I can boot from the IBM Thinkpad System Service Diskette version 1.42 but not from a "normal" bootable diskette. I'm working on charging a "previously good" battery pack which was down to 4.89V so I've got the 750C "tied up" at the moment, but I suspect that if you download the REFSTAMP utility from the Ardent Tools (https://www.ardent-tool.com/utils/refstamp.html) and run it against your bootable diskette, then that diskette will boot on your 750C.

It works!!! Thank you very much for this. It boots from a win98 bootdisk and i can read the files on the c drive. Next thing is getting it to work without bootdisk but i am already happy this thing works!
