It is not for long that the 2nd geeration of the x1 extreme is available on the website
At first there were 2 models prices at 2000 and 2800.
All of a sudden prices went up to 2900 and 4000 $, what's going on.
The first 2 prices mentioned were ok but the new prices seem so high

A big welcome to the forum!
Perhaps it's a typo on the webpage; you can wait for ThinkPad to correct this, or phone them to clarify about the pricing...
ThinkPad generally prices its newer models about the same price as its previous models.
X1E2 (X1 Extreme, 2nd Gen) is still being rolled out worldwide, and regions with X1E2 are reporting that some options are still missing:

If the configuration/pricing that you are hoping for is still not yet available, perhaps you can wait for a little while longer

Straight from the horse's mouth:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P- ... -p/4492678
"The ThinkPad P1 gen 2 is a brand-new system from Lenovo with limited parts availability. As more parts inventory enters the channel, prices should decrease."
[Edit]: X1E2 (X1 Extreme 2nd Gen) is basically same as P1, but X1E2 has consumer friendly GPU.
