X1C5 and X1C6 motherboard swap?

#1 Post by mikemex » Mon Dec 25, 2023 4:19 pm

Hey. My X1C5 works perfectly fine but I was wondering:

If it fails, can I just replace the motherboard with one from an X1C6? I'm assuming the chassis is basically the same, but sometimes they introduce minor changes that make such swaps problematic...

For the sake of ecology I donated all my classic Thinkpads.

It's not exactly the same - the port layout on the left side is different.

I think right side is the same, but it probably doesn't matter, since the part you would need to replace will cover both sides. For more details:

Thanks pal. I had forgotten about the docking connector Lenovo used for a few generations because the X1C5 uses the same two USB-C port configuration of contemporary Thinkpads. Can we call it visionary? :D

Well, it looks like too much trouble. I'll just get an X1C6 if I want one. But I doubt I could get one in pristine condition like my X1C5...
