X1 Carbon Gen 5 Windows 11 Keyboard issue

#1 Post by DRFmanager » Wed Mar 12, 2025 4:15 am

I've done an in-place update to Windows 11 24H2 on my X1 Carbon 5th Gen. On some boots, the keyboard doesn't work at all. An external keyboard works fine, and a re-boot usually fixes it. I suspect a driver issue, but has anyone any experience or thoughts on what this might be?

Thanks for reading.

Think I solved this one myself. Disabling the Fast Startup option in Windows 11 cured the issue, though it did increase my boot time from 23s to 42s. Guess I have to live with this Windows 11 'improvement'.

Disabling fast startup effectively disables hibernation. In other words, something about the built-in keyboard driver doesn't like being suspended and then resumed. It could be interaction between the driver and some other application, like a hotkey handler.
