X1 Carbon 4th Gen Issues

#1 Post by Scorpion8 » Mon Jun 30, 2025 12:59 pm

Picked up a "dead, parts only" 4th Gen X1 Carbon off eBay for chump change. Had initial issues booting, but most folks don't know about the "reset" pushbutton keyhole. It booted but the screen was all wonky. Disconnected the screen connectors and used an HDMI monitor and it booted fine. "*Pretty sure*" that means the monitor/LCD is trashed, as otherwise it (with other issues) is fine. Battery is toast, and think the coin cell CMOS battery is toast too, so replacements ordered for those.

I also ordered a replacement screen so am thinking that should fix that issue. HMM doesn't look like too tough a job, as long as all the connectors and ribbon cables find the right home.

Thoughts? Any other way to test the old LCD before the new one comes?
