Repair or Replace X1

#1 Post by sjsoldo » Thu Aug 07, 2025 1:22 am

Recently messed up my ThinkPad X1 Yoga Model 20SA

First time in my life to fly business class. Laptop fell on the side of the seat and when I adjusted the seat it got a gash on the top. I tried to attach a picture but could not figure it out.

I figured this was cosmetic, so I accepted it. But turns out the computer won't boot completely. I enter my Windows password and about 10 seconds later the computer shuts off. I reinstalled the operating system, and there was no difference. Sometimes it stays on, but the screen shows gobbledygook.

Would it be "worthwhile" to replace the screen and see if it works? I really love the computer.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Sorry to hear about the damage to your X1. :(

The fact that it causes premature shut-off suggests, unfortunately, that not just the screen is damaged. Perhaps a picture would help.
Indeed the forum does not support image attachments. For just 1-2 pictures, it is easy to use a free image upload service like Imgur and post the link here.

I would suggest trying to hook it to an external screen as I way to test whether the screen is faulty before spending any money. If it's not booting I'd agree that it's unlikely the screen alone would be the cause.
