Heads up for anyone wanting an X1 Tablet

#1 Post by babblefish » Sun Jun 01, 2025 1:52 am

Just wanted to let people know that there's a seller on eBay selling brand new in the box Thinkpad X1 Tablets, Gen 1 for $200 U.S. with free shipping.
These are the M7-6Y75 version with 8Gb of RAM and a 256Gb SSD. It includes the keyboard and stylus. It also includes a new productivity module (adds additional ports, including HDMI, and additional battery cells for longer run time) and a new OnLink+ Dock. The original price for the Productivity Module alone was $150. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed. According to the ad, all of these items are new and in their original Lenovo boxes. At the time of this post, he has 9 left in stock.
I've already ordered one for myself because I feel this is a great deal, even if it is a gen 1 model. Used versions of these tablets on eBay are selling for between $150 - $350 and they don't include the keyboard, stylus, productivity module, or OnLink+ dock. Plus they're old and beat-up. With someone else's greasy finger prints all over them.

Just received my X1 tablet. All of the components are indeed new in their sealed factory boxes. It feels really premium and is a beautiful thing. The keyboard feels almost identical to the one in my X230T and doesn't feel flimsy at all considering how thin it is. It has a micro SD card slot for increasing it's storage and a SIM card slot. The 45W power brick is not too big and the cord length is decent. Although it includes a stylus, I think I'll buy an actual WACOM just to see/feel the difference. Plus there are different brush ends for the WACOM for different writing/drawing effects. I'll try using the tablet without the productivity module (with extra batteries) to see how long the real world operating time is. I'm kind of spoiled though because my Samsung tablet will run for around 12 hours before needing a charge.

I almost bought a Lenovo 12" Android tablet because they were on sale for US$280, but I'm glad I waited and bought this instead. Well, I guess we'll see if I'm glad.

Edit:
Looks like the eBay seller has sold all 14 that he had. Maybe he'll get some more in the future. Hope a few of you were able to get in on this deal.

Just for fun, I noticed another seller selling a new in box gen 1 X1 tablet with 16gb of RAM for US$1,700, but it does not include the productivity module nor the OneLink+ dock. All I can say is, "good luck". Lol.

Sigh. There's always rain on my parades. Turns out that while the X1 tablet is new (old stock), it's battery is also the same age (imagine that!). Because of that, it is dead and won't charge. And of course, the CMOS battery is also dead. I've contacted the seller but I'm pretty sure there's nothing he can do about it since the tablet was sold "as is" with no returns. Time to start looking for a replacement battery. At least it's pretty and new. Lol.

In the mean time, I'm going to try force feeding the stock battery with an adjustable power supply to bring the voltage of each cell up high enough that the charging system will start charging on it's own. Just hoping the batteries BMS hasn't totally shut down regardless of cell voltage.

Just an update. I was able to successfully force a charge into the battery by bypassing the BMS, but it still won't work because said BMS is not letting the power pass through. Stupid Lenovo design. Ended up having to replace the main battery and the CMOS battery. After that, the tablet works great, except for a small WiFi issue. It sees every WiFi signal on the planet except mine. The SSID doesn't even show up.

Some good news though, after explaining the battery problem with the eBay seller, he refunded me $50, enough to buy a new battery. Good guy.
So now I have an extra brand new battery with fully charged cells that hold their charge, but unusable because of a BMS nanny.
