Windows 8.1 corrupted with last Windows Update

After downloading and installing the latest updates offered for 8.1 my Miix 10 wouldn't get past the log-on screen. After about ten seconds a message appeared that said "Shutting Down". One time I managed to get the password in and got to the start screen and then it started shutting down again.

I found the procedure to reload Windows 8.1 without a recovery partition. That was missing when I bought it.

You can create a bootable USB thumbdrive using a utility called Rufus. It after you download the .ISO on a separate machine, Rufus installs a bootable version of Windows on a USB stick.

In order to do this on an Ideapad though, you have to have a USB hub to plug in a keyboard, mouse, and the USB stick.

After turning off Secure Boot, and entering the setup menu, select the USB stick to boot from and off it goes.

My Ideapad is currently just finishing up the install. I'll report back later if this was successful.

Installation was successful. Drivers downloaded normally and now installing .NET Framework 4.8.

The new driver download fixed a problem with the network adapter too. The wrong driver had been installed after the pad was upgraded to Windows 8.1.

The lock screen would also freeze and not allow you to get to the log in screen without a re-boot. The updated Windows 8.1 platform upgrade download fixed this problem.

.NET Framework is painfully slow installing with this processor.

.NET Framework crashed on install. FATAL ERROR DETECTED.

I'll try something a little older.

Well this is strange. After selecting .NET Framework 4.5 the system told me I already have this version installed. I guess it failed when trying to install only 4.8. Lenovo Service Bridge installed and is scanning the system.
