I wound up bumping the T450 to 16 GB for $26 with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YG8X9Y

Maybe later, if my development requires it, I'll upgrade to 24 or 32 GB, but this should do for now, and in the meantime prices will hopefully fall.
