Morning,
I maxed out my T430. It's running 16gig ram, the 9 cell battery, Linux Mint Cinnamon, and an i7-3632QM Quad core CPU. The problem I have is, when I rip a DVD it maxes out all 8 threads on the CPU and gets hot enough to shut down. I cleaned the fan and radiator and installed new paste when I installed the CPU. The i7-3632QM is for the 35 watt system. My question is; Can I install the 45 watt cooling system on the 35 watt CPU and will the motherboard handle the extra load?
Take a look at our

Re: T430 Cooling system
I have never owned a T430 but yes I think they fit, you can install a W530 fan (FRU 04W3627 is the better). I recently bought used one for replacement and works good. Just verify with seller for compatibility.

Re: T430 Cooling system
Most T430 owners who upgrade to quad-core also upgrade the CPU cooler with one from the T430 variant with nVidia Graphics. Look for FRU 04W3269 (Toshiba fan) or FRU 04W3270 (Delta fan). Insulate the copper plate for the GPU with electric tape (or something better) to prevent it from making contact with the system board (there are lots of bare solder pads in that area because the GPU chip isn't there). Some also wrap the two heatpipes with copper foil tape to facilitate heat transfer between them.
Also, use PTM 7950 instead of thermal paste. I've found it to be superior esp. with regards to longevity.
