Repairs

#1 Post by RandomUsr890 » Tue Aug 22, 2023 5:11 pm

Greetings, I am a new poster and have been following this forum for some time now. I have a ThinkPad X230, and I am experiencing issues with the trackpad and touchpoint. However, the keyboard is functioning properly. I am curious if this could be a driver or hardware issue. Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I wold suggest trying to boot to Linux either via a disc or USB drive. It do not need to install it and does not cost anything. If it works in Linux that would point to a software issue. If not that means the hardware is more likely the issue. Good luck my friend and welcome.

You could try disconnecting the touchpad cable. If the Trackpoint works, then it's the touchpad causing the issue.

The touchpad and Trackpoint share one PS/2 port, so if one of them misbehaves, the other is affected.

I have been running Linux for years on all my machines (Manjaro), so is this more likely to be a hardware issue? I've repaired a few ThinkPads & aren't someone new to tinkering around.

I appreciate the advice, I will look around and find more information.
