X260 something loose inside making a clunk when it's turned over
X260 something loose inside making a clunk when it's turned over
Hello everyone.
I'm wondering what it can be that's loose inside an x260 making a fairly solid clunk when the laptop is turned over.
I just bought it and it was the first thing I noticed when I unboxed it.
It sounds to me as if it might be a hard drive that is unsecured, the clunk can be heard and felt on the right side towards the palmrest.
This is my first time with an x260 so I thought I'd ask instead of grabbing the screwdriver.
It shows no signs of damage externally, it was packaged well, it powers on, boots and runs normally.
I'm thinking that it could it be that someone has kludged in a hard drive without it's caddy.
If I end up keeping it are there any special precautions I should be careful about when I open it to have a look.
Thanks.

I think the only way find out is to open it up. There's plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to do it.

Get the X260 manual from the HMM link above, then take out the battery and remove the bottom cover as per instructions, using a PH0 or PH00 screwdriver.
Then find your 'clunker'.
Then find your 'clunker'.

It was the hard drive with no caddy.

Good thinking.
It may not be your case, but since most modern machines have built-in batteries, it may be good to know that it's an important safety precaution to disable the internal battery in the BIOS before doing anything. Plenty of people has blown fuses when they don't...
My first thought. Lots of shady sellers around. When I bought my W530, I had a lot of trouble getting the hard drive out. They didn't have a caddy, so they decided to just fix it with double sided tape. I complained to the seller, but nothing else. I paid $100 or so, I don't think I can ask for much after all.
