x230 i7-3615qe swap

#1 Post by MajorBananaMan » Sat Nov 23, 2024 9:36 pm

Hi, I'm new to this form. I recently got into Thinkpads and already have 7 :D T/R61 and x230/220. I would like to swap in an i7-3615qe into my x230. My dad and I have the equipment and knowledge to do the soldering and flashing, but I can't find almost any documentation about the swap. For example, do I need to mess with the power circuits and flash something or cut some trace/bridge something?
So I would like to ask if someone could help, It would make me happy.
Also, I'm not from a speaking country so I'm sorry for my English.

Thanks for the help in advance.

On the x230 you don't have to flash the bios. On the x220 you need to run coreboot bios for the newer generation CPU to work.
A reballed 3615qe motherboard will set you back $200 on AliExpress, for your consideration.
