A nice panel for x330 mod

#1 Post by munchausen » Wed Apr 14, 2021 7:40 am

Hello!
Great forum, so much amazing advice here! I have been reading for a few years but haven't had much call to say anything until now!

I have almost finished modding my x230 with a nitrocaster board and a 13.3" LCD. I have the lid modded and the panel in, all that is left is to cut the bezel... which I haven't exactly figured out how to do yet but hey, one step at a time!

I used the N133HCE-EN2, which is a nice choice because the cable is on the correct side (no extenders needed), the PCB does not require cutting as it is already narrow enough, and it fits just about between the camera and the indicator PCB at the bottom. It also does not have CABC, is matte, 300 nit, 800:1 contrast ratio. I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere so thought I'd let others know in case they are struggling to source an LCD for this mod (as I did).

Poor quality picture (sorry): https://imgur.com/a/Di67IGr

By the way if anyone has any great advice on how to stop the panel falling out I would love to hear it. I have some small adhesive foam squares but I think they may be too thin. I am also nervous that I may need to remove the screen in future and this will make it impossible as they are quite strong.

Congrats on a successful mod! One bit of info: IPS or TN?

That's an Innolux AAS FHD.
AAS (Azimuthal Anchoring Switch) is very much IPS-like.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Yes, it's essentially an IPS LCD. It looks really stunning!

I should have mentioned, right now you can get this LCD in the UK on ebay for a good price from a good seller (answers messages almost straight away and panel arrived the next day without me paying for next day postage): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164180289903. I would message them to check they are sending out the right LCD first (that's what I did at least), they are actually sending out N133HCE-EN2 REV C2 although the advert is for N133HCE-EN2 REV C1. I don't think there is any appreciable difference in the revisions.

Also, note that the panelook page for this LCD has the wrong dimensions listed, it looks like a typo, the height is 187.62 mm (including PCB) not 177.62 mm. https://www.panelook.com/N133HCE-EN2_In ... 36984.html

Finally, I have the PDF for the display, I have put it here https://gofile.io/d/2HGOff
