W540 with 6 Pin Fan, New Board Need 8Pin

Good Afternoon All,

So I had a dead W540 series, I ordered a replacement motherboard which just arrived. Everything works apart from the fan as the connector on my old board has 6 pins, where as the new board has an 8 pin connector. Anyone come across this before? I don't suppose there is a wee rewiring job I can do to make it work?

Same issue here.

Some other guy had a similar issue but his was the other way around.

He said he got around it by "swapping the connectors". Did not elaborate further.
