L390 Yoga slow-charging at 15W from 65W usb-c charger
Hi,
got a used L390Y which refuses to charge faster than 15W from 65W original charger. Both usb-c ports. No matter if computer is running or shut down. Same with windows and linux. If cpu consumes more than x amount of power, then battery slowly discharges. So basically cannot run at full tilt for too long, even with charger connected.
Does that sound like some often-seen issue, possibly with known fix?

Researching it further, came across SPI flash (Winbond W25Q80DVSNIG-GP-U), which is designated as BIOS2 on motherboard. It seems to have direct connection to TPS65988 which in turn is probably dealing with said PD topics. Manual of TPS says it has some configuration in that flash. Can anyone share dump of said flash?

There seems to be PD firmware updater for windows - Power Delivery Firmware (TI TPS65988) F407.06.29 -- https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/r10pd10w.exe -- How does one install it on linux? Or how could one extract binary suitable for writing to spi flash out of that installer?
PS. whats up with heavy security around here - can not even reply to your own thread, unless some boss approves?

Install gnome-firmware as it's a frontend for the fwupd daemon. Hopefully that firmware update is available there.

Re: L390 Yoga slow-charging at 15W from 65W usb-c charger
It says no updates available for all devices it lists. Not that fwupdmgr listed this specific device. At least I was not sure which of them could it have been.
Previously this laptop had windows 10 installed by seller, I recall seeing history log from lenovo vantage tool of sorts, which listed all previously installed updates and among them was that very same PD -related update and it was marked as failed. Wondering why would that fail...
I guess I need to go check if that flash is alive and what does it contain (in case it talks to me). Any simple way to test if it is being read successfully while on pcb?

Hopefully that flash chip is SOIC8 or something similar so you can use a test clip to read it with an external programmer. Otherwise you'll be soldering thin wires to the legs.

It is soic8. And I have a some kind of clip too. Micrograbbers will work probably too. Just not sure if it can be read in circuit or do I need to pull it off first. And assuming it probably is dead or corrupt content -wise, I would need a dump from working machine.

IP is from TOR relay, physically perhaps located in Tallinn. What business is user's exact location for forum anyhow? Want to complain next that tper is not my real name either?
