T470p with i7-7820HQ now officially supported by Windows 11

There is one configuration of the ThinkPad T470p that is now officially supported in Windows 11
Namely the top-tier version with the i7-7820HQ CPU, which just happens to be the CPU in Microsoft's Surface Studio 2...

everything needed to do to install Windows 11 on my T440p was to activate Windows Insider Program, with optional telemetry,
afterwards , the Windows 11 update would load automatically through Windows Update, would show as Windows 10 22.00someething, and after reboot was in Windows 11, go figure.

There are other thing to figure out to set in the computer, such as something about TPM.

Hi, registered for the forum to update everyone from late 2023-now (May 2024):

The T470p is not officially supported in ANY configuration. Windows Update in the Windows 10 Settings app will refuse to update.

I happened to get an offer for a "cheap older ThinkPad, was decked out" for about $225 in September 2023. It's the SKU with the Intel Core i7-7820HQ. It came with Windows 10. As I stated above, even this machine gets the same official refusal.

However, there's a GitHub repository containing a script you can run that does something to Windows Update to allow you to update to Windows 11 unofficially through that route, and that's what I did.

For what it's worth, the T470p isn't listed on the Lenovo official upgrade to Windows 11 list at this time.

With all that being said, Windows 11 run just fine on this laptop once it's upgraded. You'll just never upgrade it officially.
