I went in to a Lenovo authorized repair business today for a hardware problem, and while I was there asked them why I keep getting Event ID 13 and 516, a TPM/TBS error that indicates my TPM chip is not working properly.
They turned up MSKB 950330 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950330 which I hadn't been able to pull up through the regular error message links before.
Supposedly, MS is saying the the Lenovo BIOS (and I'm patched to date) or DRIVER for the TPM chip is defective, and when the TBS system asks the TPM chip to generate a seed after the system has been suspended/resumed, the TPM chip will consistently fail to do so.
From the KB it appears that the standards and specs require the TPM chip to perform, but the driver or bios is defective. And this error is not new--the situation has existed but previously just said "contact vendor" and as of December Lenono support knew nonothing about the problem, saying contact MS.
So my question to the rest of the world: I'm using Vista Ultimate/32, now SP2. Had the same error pre-SP1 and after SP1. If the TPM chip isn't working properly, and I plan to use Bitlocker, which may require the numbers from the TPM chip....
Am I really the only guy onthe planet who thinks Lenovo should have issued a new BIOS/driver by now? And is anyone actually using Bitlocker in this setup (T61p) and having it work, or crash, because of this problem?

Certified TPM drivers: Not Vista Compliant?

Re: Certified TPM drivers: Not Vista Compliant?
I just checked the most recent specification:
TCG Physical Presence Interface Specification
Version 1.10 Final
Revision 1.00
10 June 2009
For TPM Family 1.2; Level 2
On Page 10 of 40 it is clear that the bios is to take action to insure that "self-test errors are not propagated to the OS.". This is an issue to be resolved by Lenovo.

Re: Certified TPM drivers: Not Vista Compliant?
Thanks, Ted. A cynic might conclude that Lenono have been slacking. Or, maybe I'm their only user who has tried to use the TPM chip.
I guess they don't have one on the "Hello Kitty"-pad ? <G>
