X2100 power optimizations?

#1 Post by flyingfishfinger » Thu Feb 16, 2023 6:36 pm

(Breaking out to differentiate from EC thread, as it really doesn't have much to do with it - apologies for shuffling content around)

Has anyone successfully applied all the power saving tricks that worked for the X210 to the X2100? I haven't been able to get the power consumption under 7W at idle, no matter what. I added the 8186 driver, patched i915 (confirmed I get PSR enabled) and the previously mentioned kernel command line parameters but none of it seems to get any lower than those 7W.

Thoughts / successes on this topic?

Which screen are you using?
As far as I understand, 12.2" FHD and the original 12.1" do not support PSR even if it is enabled on the chipset / kernel level.

Digging this up again... I never made more progress here (didn't spend more time), but to answer the above question I'm using the 3000x2000 screen, or at least that's the target. I do also have have the 2880x1920 but that was never installed on the X2100, so I can't say whether the differences are due to the screen or not...

I'd still like to get to the bottom of this, but I'm out of ideas :/

Cheers,

I can't break 11W idle with mine, and the PCIe slot won't go above x1 without spewing AER corrections everywhere. So I'm here just kinda subscribing I guess.
