Anyone here attempt the X61HK mod?
Hi! I've recently obtained an X210 and have been thoroughly enjoying it for the past month. However, I have also recently obtained a X61, and I have been absolutely enamored with the form factor. Performance does leave a lot to be desired, especially nowadays haha. I know it's a bit of a longshot, but I'm interested in performing the the X61HK mod to get the best of both worlds (X210 internals in the X61 chassis). It has been fairly difficult doing any research on this topic, as there is barely anything out there on this mod.
The only thing in English I've found is jvscholz's video and the marketplace posts that he bought it from. I was able to follow some links to the 51nb forum, but I can't seem to find any instructions or detailed descriptions of how they were able to perform this mod.
If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated! Should I even pursue this mod? Or do you think I should just hope for an X64 of sorts in the future? Thanks!

I wouldn't do it. X210 is beautiful. X61HK is someone's personal hackjob. If your X210 has the 13" 3000x2000 slim-bezel display, it's killing anything you could fit in the X61. There's only a 1.34mm difference in active height between 13" 3:2 and 12.1" 4:3. Is all that trouble worth it to shave 0.6" off the width of the laptop, losing both usable display area and keyboard ergonomy?

Look into an X62, if you haven't already. The later version came with a Core i7-5600U, I have one.

How's usability/performance with the modern internet nowadays? How would it compare to my i7-8550U in my X210?flyingfishfinger wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 2:00 pmLook into an X62, if you haven't already. The later version came with a Core i7-5600U, I have one.

After doing a bit more research, I think I'd have to agree with you. Seems like waaaaaay too much effort for what it's worth. It is also nice having that little bit of extra width of a 3:2 screen compared to 4:3. Probably going to try and get an X2100 motherboard with a 10th gen CPU in the future then. Might even hunt down an X62 if it ever comes up again.TPFanatic wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 8:52 pmI wouldn't do it. X210 is beautiful. X61HK is someone's personal hackjob. The i7-5600U is a dual-core processor. It will fare poorly against the i7-8550U.filipinogamer21 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 2:41 amHow's usability/performance with the modern internet nowadays? How would it compare to my i7-8550U in my X210?

Re: Anyone here attempt the X61HK mod?
hi,
i have done some research and i found 2 issues with the idea.
Theoretically the motherboard of the x210 should fit in the case, cause it has 2 parts.
So the 2 main issues are, when you want to put an sxga+ screen on the motherboard with a wxga connector it wont work. The same goes for they keyboard connector. Everything else is manageable but i cant really find any solutions for these 2 technical problems.
Is there an adapter for this? I once read that the screen cable is modable to fit into the right connector. But i have no idea how.
Are there any forums which show how to do it?
The only guy who could help us is the modder himself who is like a god. I think jv sholz mentioned his name and it was lulu???
The other problems like for the case its pretty fine, but you would have to use tape and glue witch is kinda cool (in my opinion).
Lulu if you read this: there are many people who would like to learn from you. Pls do a patreon page or a yt channel.
