T14Gen3(Intel) Trackpad Replacement

#1 Post by Jan_888 » Thu May 23, 2024 5:09 pm

On T14 Gen3 I am about to replace trackpad Part No 5M11B95906.
Hardware Maintenance Manual for trackpad replacement says: A mylar might cover the trackpad, and ensure that you attach the mylar to the trackpad after replacement.

The spare trackpad arrived from Lenovo in a brown box together with sort of sticker - probably the mylar.
The sticker has footprint smaller than the trackpad and has sort of wings protruding to the sides and the top edge.
Sounds silly, but despite searching I am not sure if it should be attached to the top or bottom of the trackpad and what about these wings?

Take also into account that the bottom of the trackpad is covered by FRU CLICKPAD_SPILL_SPONGE, FRU CLICKPAD_SPILL_SPONGE, Part No 5M20Z56337
So the mylar should be attached to the top side and the CLICKPAD_SPILL_SPONGE to the bottom side? Or both mylar and CLICKPAD_SPILL_SPONGE to the bottom side?

Does anybody know how it should be properly done?

According to this video, doesn't mylar cover everything? Wrong mylar maybe?
