Best thinkpad story ?

Does anyone have any good story about his TP ?
Extensive travel, and copious amounts of bashing are sure to help in making the best story. Also appreciated some passionate romance in it

My T43 came to the rescue in a US History class.

The class had recently been discussing the various 9/11 theories; some had not accepted the government explanation. We had a substitute one day, who allowed us to watch Loose Change which had, at least at that time, resided on Google Video. I had a copy downloaded to my laptop. I threw my T43 on the projector, set it to Timers Off, and let it rip full screen.

My T43 was the class hero. Got us out of actual work!

About a year ago, I was still using a 166mhz ThinkPad 380 and it fell a few feet off a table onto a smooth concrete floor without so much as even a scratch. It's also survived the horrors of being in the car with me during rush hour which my OmniBook 4150 got to experience tonight when I was forced to suddenly stop and the laptop went flying out of the passenger seat, hit the dash and fell to the floor. I didn't have the time then to see if any damage had been done but when I got home and brought the computer inside, I found that the only damage was a small scrape on one of the corners.

a customer who works in bangkok had a 760ED he accidentally threw across the BK airport..
a little duct tape and it was fine..

and i probably still have a 760CD that looks like it survived a train wreck.. holes, cracks all over.. and still runs.. or ran when i last tried it..

but those are pretty old thinkpad models..

The 760s are pretty solid. I've used several earlier this decade up until last year and all of them have been dropped, kicked, scuffed and one even got kicked (on accident) all the way across a classroom by some kid when I made the mistake of setting it down on the floor for a second while I get some papers. That model is also great for customizing or for hobby since all the parts are modular. It's real easy to buy parts on eBay and build a 760 from scrap. Oh, that reminds me, if anyone has a 760 they can get rid of or if anyone wants an incomplete 760C, let me know.

I've dropped my ThinkPad a few times (by accident) and its still working fine. There was also one time when my ThinkPad was on a table and then I accidently dropped it and when I opened it and turned it on it was fine.

Well, I was demonstrating how durable my T21 was once, so I dropped it from 4ft and it broke (cd drive and screen hinge if I remember right). That being said, I have really roughed my X60s, and its been great. For example, just the other day, it was sitting in my back seat. Being an agressive driver, I go to slow down from 90 (highway) to 70 (offramp), just as I reach the apex. When I hit the brakes, it went flying into my seatback, then slammed to the floor. It didnt sound good, but I later found out that it didnt even loose its standby status.

Ah! So it was you that passed me on 495 Thursday!

East coast driving habits I'm sure....yep, rarely change.

I guess my 701c has been through alot; many airplane flights, exposure to "Sea Air" (you will never see a better solution for corroding most forms of unprotected metal better than seawater and/or the aerosolized form of it) for weeks on end on the beach, getting taken bare through airports on red-eye flights, and exposure to direct sunlight....All of this in a cyclic, periodic fashion for a little over a decade and it has yet to show one makedly visible scratch, have a BSOD (hasn't had one in 7 years and I use it at least once per week), and the batteries for it still hold an ~1:30+ hours of charge.

So, yeah, it has held up pretty well.
