certainly not
certainly not
the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)
Re: Are you ready to put a Windows 7 sticker on your laptop
No stickers are allowed on my T60 (running Windows 7 by the way).
They just spoil the great ThinkPad design.

The sticker ALONE? No, but otherwise if the sticker were part and parcel of the OS I would gladly take it.

Re: Are you ready to put a Windows 7 sticker on your laptop
Why on earth would people not want to put a sticker on their computer?
Everyone knows that by putting stickers on anything it makes it faster.
Sticker on a car? Car goes faster.
Sticker on a computer? Computer goes faster.
Sticker on a blender? Blends faster.
I'm sure there is a scientific proof of this somewhere.

I happen to be one of the weird guys who likes stickers on their laptop palmrests / desktop towers.
But I don't like Windows 7 though. What a stupid name for an operating system that's actually Windows NT 6.1.
So no Win7 sticker for me in the near future.

I will leave my laptops alone. They have the XP, Pentium M, and one has the ATI sticker on it already. One more sticker and my laptops will tip over!
So no. Too much extra weight!

It may be NT 6.1, but its like the 10th or 11th version of Windows.dr_st wrote:I happen to be one of the weird guys who likes stickers on their laptop palmrests / desktop towers.

I particularly like the name - I like numbers more than names for this kind of stuff.
Re: Are you ready to put a Windows 7 sticker on your laptop
Agree, but shouldn't the numbers at least make some sense? Like you said, it's the 10th, or 11th edition, released in 2009,visionviper wrote:I particularly like the name - I like numbers more than names for this kind of stuff.
what does "7" have to do with it? Because it's a lucky number?
They called it 7 to somehow signify that it's "the next major release" after 6 (Vista), and isn't just "Vista Enhanced" (which is of course false, it sure does not look farther from Vista than XP was from 2000).
The problem is that it's likely to cause more confusion down the road when NT 7.0 comes out.

Re: Are you ready to put a Windows 7 sticker on your laptop
There is quite a change between Vista and 7 and it is mostly under the hood. Heck, if you compare the DVD size of Vista Business vs Windows 7 Professional - Windows 7 is smaller by a wide margin.dr_st wrote:Agree, but shouldn't the numbers at least make some sense? And yeah, they won't be able to call the NT 7 based OS Windows 7, but does that really matter? How many people actually track kernel revisions besides enthusiasts?
Re: Are you ready to put a Windows 7 sticker on your laptop
The biggest change is how much useless junk is provided/enabled by default. Which is why the DVD is smaller, and why the memory footprint is smaller as well.visionviper wrote:There is quite a change between Vista and 7 and it is mostly under the hood. Changes between Win2K and WinXP were bigger.
Well... Enthusiasts/developers are not such a big group, but they are one to reckon with.visionviper wrote:And yeah, they won't be able to call the NT 7 based OS Windows 7, but does that really matter? How many people actually track kernel revisions besides enthusiasts?

Re: Are you ready to put a Windows 7 sticker on your laptop
Well it isn't just things they removed but code optimizations. The guy running the windows division said that one of their main focuses in Windows 7 was to make code more efficient.dr_st wrote:The biggest change is how much useless junk is provided/enabled by default. The stuff that has been removed from Vista isn't really that much when you look at the list. While the removal of some of those features might have lead to some performance improvement the most comes from the revamped code.
