Carbon X1 4th Gen & External Monitors

#1 Post by terrain_inconnu » Fri Jan 31, 2020 10:43 am

How many external monitors can I connect to a Carbon X1 4th Gen without using a docking station and assuming that the internal display will be deactivated? I am interested in connecting 3 external 1920*1080 monitors via DisplayPort (daisy chain). Is that possible?

Our X1C4 had only 1 external monitor connected (via HDMI).

Anyone else have actual experience for OP's proposed setup?

hello and welcome to the forum..
interesting question..
my GUESS is YES if you want to wind up with the SAME duplicate display on each monitor..
[got to run now, i'll come back later for my T40 series 3 monitor setup]

Why duplicate? According to the specs (https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com ... yOECmL.pdf) the Intel HD Graphics 520 supports 3 independent displays.

3 Monitors

I can say from experience that the maximum on the 4th generation X1 Carbon is 3 monitors, however, one of those monitors has to be the built-in display. According to Intel's official support bulletin, you could also probably get 3 independent external displays going, (without the laptop screen) but only if two of them were native DisplayPort. I haven't tested the 3 external display solution myself, so that'd be up to you to test.
