Need guidance regarding T420 CPU upgrade (i5 2410M to i7 2640M)

Good morning,

I have recently attempted to upgrade my ThinkPad T420's i5 2410M CPU to an i7 2410M. Since upgrading, I have been having issues booting in to my OS (Manjaro XFCE.) I unencrypt my hard drive, and then it will get stuck on the Manjaro loading screen. I have attempted to re-install another OS, this time Ubuntu Mate, and it won't boot into the OS; it just goes straight back to boot options. I am looking for any suggestions on what I should do to get this CPU working. I am wondering if I need to upgrade the battery or if the motherboard just isn't compatible with the new CPU. I have heard that I possibly need to update the motherboard bios, but I can only find Windows installers on Lenovo's website, and I don't have a Windows machine in my house.

I know you guys probably need a bit more information about the exact motherboard I have, etc. I will get whatever information you guys request when I get home this evening. I just wanted to get this post out there in case there was something obvious, like the CPU not being compatible with the T420.

Do this with the old CPU, after the update try the new one.
