The tricky thing is that it is said that the bills are phrased to deliberately obfuscate the fact that they can be used to ban encryption. Read more on EFF:

I would certainly like to know how that will be enforced should it pass both the House and the Senate. I doubt it makes it through a Republican controlled Senate.

I'm reasonably certain that there's enough "big government" Senators on each side who'll be happy to pass this "bipartisan" child of Orwell's worst nightmares.

Hopefully I'll be proven wrong on this one, but am not holding my breath.

That being said - "Never let a crisis go to waste."

This is the perfect opportunity to try this.

I am hoping (like others) that it won't succeed, but given the general apathy and ignorance displayed by my fellow Citizen Comrades, I am pretty sure it will. Or a variation of it.

Pelosi probably has it tucked away in that cookbook sized Socialist Relief Bill she wrote and expects Trump to look like the bad guy when he vetoes it.

This is typical of all western economies... both parties in most two party systems want to maintain the status quo, which means they will trade privacy for security.

Its an easy bet to make. Removing peoples privacy results in little blowback but if you have some kind of terrorst act.... even white right wing terrorism which is largely condoned, then you dont want to seem like your policies were contributing to that.

Oddly enough its up to certain companies to maintain privacy.

Apple rightly or wrong, do stand up for privacy.

Also make note that politicians are exempt from the laws that they enact. Its ok for them but not for you.
