Compatible LCD for 14 inch R50

#1 Post by rvbd » Thu Aug 24, 2023 8:44 pm

Hello,

I have procured an R50 14 inch, with good chassis conditions, however the LCD died. What are the compatible LCD replacements for this machine? I tried looking in AliExpress and other marketplace to no avail.
I'm quite new to restoring classic thinkpad (newfound hobby), so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Kind Regards,

Arvy

Get the R50/p, R51 manual from the HMM link above.
It shows several manufacturers on page 194.

Thanks! I get it now, I was looking at the manual but wasn't sure what the models mean.
Sorry, bit of a noob question.

Like this one for example:
LCD panel, 14.1-in. XGA
v 1829-28x, 29x, 43x, 44x, 4Ax, 4Hx, 52x, 53x, 54x, 55x,
56x, 57x, 58x, 59x, 5Bx, 5Gx, 5Hx, 5Jx, 5Lx, 5Mx

The other ones saying samsung 440, that's pretty clear.

Also, I have a T60 lying round with broken motherboard, will that screen be compatible?

If the LCD is also XGA, then it is a straight swap (T60-->R50) and should fit and work (but not R50-->T60)
Make sure to remove battery/charger before working on screens!
