Well i have no Idea what causes this, but anytime I switch resolution on my desktop the ICONs leave their places and get all mixed up. I am guessing that windows doing this in order to make all the icons visible at any resolution (which is impossible anyway if I got for 800x600 for example because there sre too many).
Is there any way around? I never had this problem on other PCs... sure I never switched resolutions either.
No auto arrange is on.
thanks

desktop ICONs messed up by ATI
When you change screen resolution the desktop icons are relocated. When you change back, they are not where they were before. This will occur on any windows machine.
I have looked around the web, but I never saw a good solution.
There are 3rd party applications that you can run in the background that will do this for you - but I am not satisfied with that method.
I would not recommend this, but if you remove all power while the pc/laptop is running, when you boot it back up the desktop icons will be where they were the last time you booted up.
The fact that this ill-advised method(?) puts the icons back, proves that the icon location info is still in the computer. This makes me think that there should be a way to incorporate this into windows, without some 3rd party app.
