Is there a wireless cardbus adapter for the Thinkpad 560?
Is there a wireless cardbus adapter for the Thinkpad 560?
I tried to insert a D-Link Air Plus Xtreme G wireless cardbus adapter in my Thinkpad 560 but will not fit, any suggestions?
The requirements from D-Link is a minimum of a Pentium 300MHz and my laptop is only Pentium I, 166Mhz, 48 RAM.
Any hope? I like the 560 since is light and small to take it to Starkbucks and get on line for free...
Thanks!
Henry

ThinkPad 560 Series is not cardbus compatible, only PC Card Type-III or Type-II.

Uhhhh, G! PC card types I, II and III refer to the SIZE of the card, not whether it's cardbus or not.G-Man wrote:ThinkPad 560 Series is not cardbus compatible, only PC Card Type-III or Type-II.
To the OP, you need a 16BIT PCMCIA WiFi card, which is going to be very difficult to find in .11g.

Lol. I know James. But since it's an older model, the 32bit Cardbus card won't work, only 16bit (not cardbus
) PCMCIA. I haven't composed my post correctly.

Card Bus did'nt work for my 760C 16bit PC Card Socket.
Oh one would think it obvious, but the cards look very similar. I tried a cardbus card in a 16bit socket on my 760C and it would not even fit in.
I am wondering what kinds of 16bit cards were even available.
* I have a 10 megabyte ethernet 16 bit pc card.
* Have been looking for a 16 bit USB 1.1 card with no luck.
Good luck to you on your hunt for the 16 bit network card you need.

They don't exist. USB requires a Cardbus enabled PC slot, regardless of whether it's a desktop's PCI or a laptop's PCMCIA slot.tomstarich wrote:* Have been looking for a 16 bit USB 1.1 card with no luck.
For the OP, there are tons of 16BIT WiFi NICs available in 802.11b, including the widely acclaimed Orinoco Gold cards.
But you're not going to find a 16BIT card that supports the 802.11g standard, it's just too new.

IBM's Bluetooth PC Card I. was 16bit compatible (not sure about Bluetooth PC Card II.). Also IBM Wireless PC Card (.11b) was 16bit, and some IBM (Xircom, US Robotics) 56k modem with XJack.

I'm guessing being as it's a P166 it's a 560E, the 560/560E are 16bit PCMCIA only; 560X and 560Z support cardbus and zoomed video card - worthwhile picking up a 560X just for cardbus and the 233MHz Pentium in most of the machines, very cheap too.
Might save you a lot of the hassle. (Oh and it has USB 1.1 built in)
