Reloaded my system to factory -- driver problem
Reloaded my system to factory -- driver problem
I reloaded my system to factory. Now, once in awhile, I get the following message:
"The device driver for the 'Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System' is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver."
I'm not sure why it's happening. Sometimes the machine goes into standby, sometimes it doesn't. How should I fix this? Should I update the driver. If so, where is it, and how do I do it? TIA.
Tony

Re: Reloaded my system to factory -- driver problem
Thank you, Harry. I found it in the list. Could you please point me to a set of instructions also in how to complete the task? (I never tried this.)

You should be able to just download and run both executables and follow the prompts.

An Update
I updated my driver last night, but I was downhearted to say the least when it didn't fix the problem, even after rebooting. Today, at one point, a pop-up screen came up which said that Firefox has disabled/blocked some add-on that's been known to cause problems and instability. The standby problem hasn't happened again since then. I set the computer to go to sleep after one minute, and it has done that numerous times. Keeping my fingers crossed ...

Re: Reloaded my system to factory -- driver problem
Bad News. It just happened again. At least twenty times standby worked right, while the ThinkPad was on battery power. Now, I plugged it into AC power, and the standby problem happened again. I'm not sure if AC power's the variable or if it's just a coincidence. A ridiculous problem to have ...

Tõnis,
Does anything in Device Manager show up with an X or "Unknown Device,"
especially under the Batteries or System categories?

Re: Reloaded my system to factory -- driver problem
Thanks for checking in, Mike. I looked at that now, and there are no red x marks next to anything, but yesterday and today it's been going into standby without a problem. It seems to be an intermittent problem, usually manifesting itself after the machine has been in use all day. (The other thing I'm suspecting is my versions of CPU-Z or mobile meter, but that's just a hunch.) But if/when the problem happens again, I'll check device manager for any red x marks.

Why use Mobilemeter on a Core 2 duo machine?. Also I don't think Mobilemeter has been updated in years. Try CoreTemp....
