What This Package Does ----------------------- This Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette updates the embedded controller program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. The Embedded Controller Program internal ID is for administrator purpose. (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.02 - 1.02(1OHT30WW)> - Initial release for ThinkPad R40. <1.04 - 1.04(1OHT32WW)> - (Fix) Sometimes the system may be powered off with an incorrect POST error message 'Thermal sensing error.' <1.06 - 1.06(1OHT34WW)> - (Fix) The key beside the left hand shift key on Europe keyboards does not work properly. <1.07 - 1.07(1OHT35WW)> - (Fix) Switching the monitor Off by pressing the Fn+F3 Keys does not work. <1.09 - 1.09(1OHT37WW)> - (Fix) Enter key of NumLock shift in Japanese Keyboard does not work as Enter key. - (Fix) Clicking noise might be generated every 10 seconds when Battery is fully charged. <1.10 - 1.10(1OHT38WW)> - (Fix) System may hang by pressing volume keys during POST. <1.11 - 1.11(1OHT39WW)> - (Fix) Battery maximizer shows incorrect remaining time when two batteries are installed. <1.13 - 1.13(1OHT41WW)> - (Fix) Battery drain during Hibernation mode was reduced. <1.14 - 1.14(1OHT42WW)> - (Fix) When Windows power management is disabled and both primary and secondary batteries run down to 0%, System will not power on with AC adapter. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the Embedded Controller Program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Make sure the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette is write-protected. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select 2. KBC H8 BIOS flash? from the menu. 5. Press N to continue update. 6. When completed, the computer is automatically turned off. WARNING: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced. After the update has been completed, please refer to the Determining which version is installed section below and follow the steps to confirm the update is correctly applied. To enter the IBM BIOS Setup Utility; 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Make sure there is not a diskette in the floppy disk drive. 3. Turn on the computer. 4. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left of the screen, press the Access IBM button. 5. Select Start setup utility. If you have set a superviser password, the IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password. Check the Embedded Controller Version number.
