Re: Asking for a anniversary T30 (or T35) model
The USB4/Thunderbolt ports with all their bandwidth have all but replaced docking ports. So a dongle on a USB/TB "dock" should solve a problem of lack of ports. :) In any case I apologize for forgetting about the P1. These are top tier ThinkPads with top spec options. Z16 is too consumer-style for ...

Re: Asking for a anniversary T30 (or T35) model
A dongle to SD is not the end of the world. If cutting edge brand new hardware is required, then so is accepting the trend. Otherwise we have to look at older technology for cheap, acquire enough redundancy and follow best practices, and carry on. The bad thing about an SD dongle is that it also ea...

Re: Asking for a anniversary T30 (or T35) model
I see some potential hope in laptops like the framework - perhaps someday, we will be able to choose which style of keyboard we prefer and have multiple options available. When making a configuration order on your PC, you have some flexibility like that. On laptops, the tight integration isn't very...

Re: Asking for a anniversary T30 (or T35) model
we got one last year i believe... i forget which model they used (i think it was an x1 carbon) but about all they did was put the t25's rgb thinkpad logo on it and then called it a day. they clearly don't care enough about the people who want a modern thinkpad with the 7 row keyboard to put the mon...

Re: Asking for a anniversary T30 (or T35) model
The zany Z16 has an SD reader, along with the P16 workstation. No USB Type A ports at all? Where's the world coming to? :-) At such a large size (Z16), they could be offering 1-2 USB ports more. From the reviews, the reviewers don't seem very impressed with the keyboard, though. How I would LOVE to...

Asking for a anniversary T30 (or T35) model
Hello there (long time no see), as I am typing this on my T480, I would like to express my frustration with the current Lenovo Thinkpad range. I recently visited a Lenovo store here in Athens, and I have to say that I was quite disappointed with the current models. First of all, no SD card reader (y...

You can make one yourself, no problem, or get one of these: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Travel-Plug-Adapter-Europe-Black/dp/B078P22HRC/ref=psdc_1626844031_t3_B088B3ZDHL Should fit the 2 prongs from the Schuko. Feeding 90W AC adapter with two prong plug?
Hello everyone, I have a T480 with an adlx90nlt3a AC adapter, which has a three hole socket for the wall connection. The other side offers a USB-C power connection to the T480. Currently, I am using a European Schuko plug (also named CEE 7/7 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuko), but I wish to use m...

Re: T480 model number not shown in PSREF - cause for worry?
Received today my T480, and the first impressions are favorable. The main differences to my X220 are the more neutral screen colors (the X220 has a bluish cast), size and the keyboard. This island keyboard takes time getting used to it... (and it's the UK layout instead of the US I had in my X220). ...

Re: Upgrading from an X220? T420 or X230?
Hello everybody, as I am still waiting for a replacement palmrest, I got a T480. The main differences, besides the more neutral screen colors (my X220 has a rather bluish cast) and size, are in the keyboard. Quite different, and the UK layout is a bit different than my US keyboard of the X220, but I...

Re: T480 model number not shown in PSREF - cause for worry?
Maybe a stupid question, but... would it be possible to find a discrete GPU (MX150) and add it later to the T480?
Or is it a different system board? (I would guess the latter)

Re: T25 appears to be sold-out in US lenovo web store
Ah OK, at any rate I am not impressed by the island keyboards in laptops these days. I am a touch typist, and I want the longer drive this scissors mechanism offers. I hope that the T480 keyboard is 'good enough' for use (not been able to attend one in person), I suspect that it'll take quite some t...

Re: T25 appears to be sold-out in US lenovo web store
What do you mean by mechanical keyboard? There are no meaningful difference in the scissor switch mechanism between the Thinkpad 25 and other Thinkpads. The only differences are the layout and the shape of the keys. I was under the impression that the T25 was using a mechanical keyboard like the cl...

T480 model number not shown in PSREF - cause for worry?
Hello everybody, I am looking into Ebay for a T480, and I saw a listing for a T480 with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD. When I asked the seller for the type, he wrote me back that the model type is 20L6-S3NY00. The strange thing is, I looked into the PSREF, and I cannot locate this type/configuration: h...

Unfortunately, I learned of the existence of this model too late to order it.
Can we hope for a rerun of a modern Thinkpad with a mechanical keyboard?
Say, a T480 with the mechanical keyboard, please? (no discrete GPU, too)

Re: Upgrading from an X220? T420 or X230?
Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. I think that I'll do at first a palmrest replacement (these seem to be around ten EUR), and combine it with a clean up of the keyboard etc. The T480 is intriguing as well, but it seems that I'll have to go into Windows 10, and I am not enthusiastic about this pr...

Upgrading from an X220? T420 or X230?
Hello everyone, I wish a wonderful 2020 to all! My trusty X220 is functioning for years now (i5-2520M CPU, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB Samsung SSD, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit), but it has suffered some damage over these years (a broken USB connection, damage to the palm rest above the left side etc.), and I am start...

Re: The lottery called Lenovo/X200 batteries
Hello there, I own an x200s (bought from a member of the forum), which has a lenovo 9-cell battery (I suspect Sanyo cells, because it was already mediocre when I bought it). Now, it gives me 2 hours on WiFi operation, and that is not a good performance. Should I go for an Ebay seller of a 6-cell bat...

what kind of connector is involved? I had no problem with my T60 and the VGA connector in playing H.263 and H.264 movies on a secondary 1680*1050 monitor, under Windows XP and with a 1.66 GHz processor on my Intel GMA chipset. With H.263 streams, the 1.66 GHz CPU is easily handling these using the V...

Re: Upgrading From core Duo to core 2 duo issue
The link was useful (OK, the bigger processors don't have a larger coverage in benchmarks). My T60 has the T5500 CPU, and there are times I would like something faster (especially when processing large images) I am checking on Ebay for the T7200 and T7400, but the prices (especially for the latter o...

Re: Question about memory upgrade
I had a similar situation some days ago. My T60 had 1.5 GB inside, which was inadequate when processing large photos in GIMP. So, I bought a 2 GB SODIMM DDR2 @667 MHz, and when I opened my T60 I removed the 512 MB SODIMM and kept the 1 GB one. So, I maxed out the T60 to 3 GB, which is the chipset li...

Re: First Thinkpad for a programmer
I write a lot of code and I personally prefer SXGA+ (1400x1050 pixels) over XGA (1024x768 pixels) The SXGA+ has almost 300 pixels more in the vertical direction than the XGA display so you get to see quite a bit more text in the vertical direction. But, if the dimensions are the same, you get small...

Re: First Thinkpad for a programmer
In my experience, the 14.1 1024*768 monitor has an adequate resolution for this size.
And this resolution works very well for the Windows interface (fonts, menus etc.)
Now, if you find that rare 14.1" T61, that would be even nicer I think
(didn't know about its existence myself)

Re: First Thinkpad for a programmer
My impression is that VMware wants (in that priority) CPU, RAM and a fast hard disk. The graphics section is probably the smallest problem here (if you do not plan on running games or 3D applications in the virtual machines). So, I would shoot for a 14.1" 4:3 monitor T60 with integrated Intel 945G c...

I own a 4:3 screen T60 (1.66 GHz Centrino Duo processor and Intel 945 GMA), 1.5 GB RAM (got is used). The particular screen is not impressive, but it's much taller than typical widescreens, and that's important if you want to write lots of code and glance at it quickly (resolution is 1024*768).
