T480 model number not shown in PSREF - cause for worry?
T480 model number not shown in PSREF - cause for worry?
Hello everybody,
I am looking into Ebay for a T480, and I saw a listing for a T480 with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD.
When I asked the seller for the type, he wrote me back that the model type is 20L6-S3NY00.
The strange thing is, I looked into the PSREF, and I cannot locate this type/configuration: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_T480
When I asked for a photo of the sticker, he provided me one (with serial number censored), should I be worried? Is there a possibility that the PSREF isn't complete?
Cheers,
N.F.

They have never been complete. If you like the specs and the price, go for it.

Re: T480 model number not shown in PSREF - cause for worry?
Maybe a stupid question, but... would it be possible to find a discrete GPU (MX150) and add it later to the T480?
Or is it a different system board? (I would guess the latter)

Correct, CPU and GPU are soldered to the motherboard and upgrade would require replacement.

Re: T480 model number not shown in PSREF - cause for worry?
Received today my T480, and the first impressions are favorable.
The main differences to my X220 are the more neutral screen colors (the X220 has a bluish cast), size and the keyboard. This island keyboard takes time getting used to it... (and it's the UK layout instead of the US I had in my X220).
The CPU is OK for typical tasks (i5-8250), but I would like the boost from the Nvidia GPU in the light game I tested (Trainz train simulator). I guess that exchanging the motherboard for an MX150 equipped one isn't financially prudent, though (I saw i5-8250 mobos at 400 dollars on Ebay).
For business tasks, sure it seems quite usable.
