My friend got a X31 early this year and I recently bought one as well. We have very identical configuration, except mine has 60GB hard drive (his is 40GB) and with BlueTooth + IBM Wireless a/b/g. The CPU speed is the same but mine has Intel Pentium M sticker and the same logo when booting up. His has the Intel Centrino sticker and Centrino Logo at bootup. My question is which CPU is better if there is any difference. Does mine also have the same low voltage power saving feature? I heard Centrino suppose to be low voltage, which allows the laptop to run longer.
Thanks in advance.

Intel Pentium M vs Intel Centrino
Your laptop has the Pentium M sticker because it does not qualify as a "centrino" laptop. The reason for this is because your wireless card is not the cisco/intel recommended card. Intel states that you must have that card to qualify as a "centrino." Your configuration is actually better so don't worry about it not being classified as a centrino notebook. You are running the same cpu as him and also benefit from the same features.

There is no difference in CPU
Centrino = Intel Pentium M + 855 Chipset + Intel Wireless
Pentium M = Intel Pentium M + 855 Chipset (wireless provided by 3d party).
I actually don't favor Centrino very much. The drivers are always spotty on release, and I've read that the first generation Intel wireless products actually didn't save more power than products by Atheros and others.

Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!
