Laptop turns on for a split second

hey guys, i just picked up a T20 on ebay and was wondering if it can be fixed, when you press the power button it flicks on for a split second and the power light comes on, then it turns straight off again.

i bought it as spares for my t21 (keyboard screen etc) but now im hoping to get it to power on, any ideas?

Have you tried the usual troubleshooting technique of removing everything possible and try booting? Have you tried booting of AC only and battery only? I don't know if ram is compatible between the two, if so test the ram in the T21.

i've tried removing everything bar the cpu and ram, cpu and ram tested ok, i even got to a point where i removed the motherboard from the chassis.

That's too bad, it's sounding like a bad system board. Of course if the rest of the machine is in good shape you might try to pick up a used board if you can get one at a good price. It's hard for me to part out a Thinkpad.

i would love to get another main board for it, but at the moment i can't find any on ebay australia (because i live in australia

) i could get one shipped in but meh, i need a screen cable to go with it since ive only got the one in my working machine.

was that: motherboard with ram and cpu booted up fine?
or was that cpu and ram worked but on a different motherboard?
try a different ac adapter too.

i tried everything, yes it means that i tried the ram, cpu etc in another motherboard and it worked in another, also have tried 3 power packs

then youre at 90% of it being the main board. try the various ebays there are: ebay.com, .at .fr. co.uk .de, most vendors will agree to send it intercontinental, and at least from europe it shouldnt be more than 20€ to ship it over to oz. most sellers will a) speak english and b) accept paypal.

try higher voltage, my machine started at 20V. Then ignition point changed to 17V one day later...

i just came across the following: with broken inverters, the screen sometimes will go on for a split second. check if there is anything on the screen by holding a bright light to it. maybe it's just the lcd backlight.
