I reformatted and reinstalled Win2K on my T20, using the original Product Recovery CD. I am trying to install the updates that appear on the IBM site, but according to the instructions I need to uninstall the configuration utility before updating. When I go to "add/remove programs" in Win2K and attempt to uninstall the utility, a message appears:
"unInstallShield has detected that 'c:\program files\thinkpad\utilities\tp98.exe' is in use. Please close the application using this file and launch unInstallShield again."
This appears even though I have not opened the configuration utility. I would appreciate instructions as to how to get around this problem.
TIA,
David

Unable to delete the Thinkpad Configuration Utility
Is it sitting in the System Tray by default, even though you didn't consciously open it? If that fails, get Software Installer and use it to uninstall the ThinkPad Utility. IBM used to include some of the other tools (battery and eject IIRC) in the ThinkPad Utility and now they are separate. That is why you need to uninstall it. Later versions do not have this difficulty. ... JD Hurst
