CMOS Checksum Errors
CMOS Checksum Errors
Hi all - I have a T23 2647 Thinkpad. I sporatically have been getting an error that reads:
0251 System CMOS checksum bad - Default configuration used
0271 Date and time error Run IBM BIOS Setup Utility to reset the time and date.
I then go into BIOS and reset the time and can then startup normally.
But occassionally, I'll have problems where it will take me about an hour of starting and rebooting the computer just to get to the error message.
I'm thinking that part of my problem might be the CMOS Backup Battery - anyone else seen this problem? It *looks* easy to swap out, are there any tricks?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Remove the small screw on the cmos battery holder and the two longer screws that hold the keybord down, theres one just above the main battery latch and one under the mini-pci card cover. Lift the bottom of the keyboard up and pull downward to remove. Then you will see where the cmos battery plugs in on the systemboard. It *looks* easy to swap out, are there any tricks?
