When will thinkpads come with glossy screens?
Personally, I wish Lenovo would give us consumers a choice whether to go for glossy or matt on Thinkpads.
I had some glossy screen computers before and although light reflection gets irritating at times especially outdoors, there are advantages like making photos much more vivid.
So all in all, I wouldn't say that glossy screen on Thinkpads is that bad.

It does, as opposed to how some view such changes, cost real money to change the lines, design, and engineering specs (as IBM/Lenovo would want to make sure that it didn't introduce any conflicts or problems for them to troubleshoot). Nothing wrong with providing a "choice," but, from their POV, it has to make sense economically and not just be an expense on their part to serve a smaller portion of users for a benefit of undetermined extra utility.

You can pay www.screentekinc.com to give your screen the glossy treatment. The LCD screens are the same...it's just the screen treatment that's different and can be replaced by these guys.

All glossy screens are not equal. The MacBook has a glossy screen and my first reaction was that I would never buy one because of it. After seeing them in the store and walking outside and trying it on the sidewalk (with permission and an employee), however, I found that the glossy screen Apple uses is a very good compromise between super gloss and glare control. Yes, it looks like a mirror when turned off, but even under harsh lighting the screen does rather well.
given the choice, I'd buy matte most of the time, but I can see where people like glossy screens better and agree with their arguments as well. I know that when its time to plop in a movie, that glossy widescreen on the MacBook is about the best I've ever seen, while in a dark airplane cabin with the little reading light on overhead, I prefer the matte screen of my ThinkPad.
