I was wondering if there were any solutions other than a PC card for getting firewire on my our T42 (2378 EZU) I'm looking at the port replicators/docking stations on IBM's site and didnt see anything about firewire, but thought maybe it was overlooked. anyone know anything i dont?

If all else fails use the PCMCIA firewire card. I use one in my T42p and it works great. Very fast on cardbus system.hmphargh wrote:I was wondering if there were any solutions other than a PC card for getting firewire on my our T42 (2378 EZU) I'm looking at the port replicators/docking stations on IBM's site and didnt see anything about firewire, but thought maybe it was overlooked. anyone know anything i dont?

I plan on buying an external 8x DVD recorder to use with my laptop.
On the messageboards for discussing dvd recording, there aren't many discussions about using dvd recorders externally.
But according to what I've found, it appears that connecting via firewire can offer a slight advantage (less cpu utilization, less likelihood of any recording errors, greater success in trying to record at a higher data transfer rate) over connecting via usb 2.0, especially when recording at higher than 4x speed
The problem is that I don't know if one brand is better than another.
The stores in my area carry "Adaptec", "AverMedia", "Compaq" (apparently made by MicroInnovations), "Compusa", "Dynex", "IOGear", "Micro Advantage".
Plus there are a few additional brands that I've found on-line (such as "Belkin" and "Lacie".
Does anyone have any recommendations ?
