I have this ugly bluetooth icon on my system tray. I try to keep as few icons as possible there. To me, since I only have two BT devices, and they are already paired with my TP, this icon has no functionality at all. If I ever need to add a new device, I can just go to the control panel and do it there. It just clutters the tray.
I found out that the executable creates that icon is bttray.exe, and by default it is in windows' startup directory. I could have just removed it from there. But I also noticed that this executable is responsible from scanning the nearby devices to connect them. I gues if that's not running, I can't use my devices.
I used to use MS default BT drivers, the software from MS had a much nicer icon, and most importanty, when BT was turned off, it would remove itself from the tray. I had to start using drivers from IBM again (my new headset did not work with MS drivers).
Is there anyway to remove that icon from there?
thanks
P.S.: I even tried to use resource hacker to change the icons in bttray.exe, but it didn't work, those icons with red signs and so on are embedded in some other file, I couldn't find them.

Yes, there is a way to remove that icon. Right click the taskbar and click on "Properties," then click "Customize;" after that, find the bluetooth icon and select "Always Hide" in the respective drop down box.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Thank you Chirtopher, but it's already like that. I want it completely gone.
Also, check this out about bttask.exe:
