A few days ago I had used the recovery discs to do a factory install of XP on my T60. It went perfectly fine. But then I was experimenting with some stuff in XP, and got it into a state where I couldn't get it back to normal, so I decided to use the recovery discs once again to do a factory install. This time it had a problem with one of the scripts that executes on the Windows desktop. There was a dialog box that said "IBM Customizations in progress", along with a DOS window executing a script. But the script froze on a "tvtrnr3.exe" command. And the desktop stopped responding. I thought that was a bad sign, so I power cycled the T60, and loaded the R&R off the hard drive and started the recovery all over again. But once again, it froze at the same place. This time I just power cycled and let it go back into Windows, and then everything seemed to finish without any further problems. But I am wondering if the freeze may have caused something in the installation to not be completed properly? Is that possible?
It's really weird that the first time I tried it, it worked perfectly fine, and then the next 2 times I tried it the system froze in the exact same place.

Factory install hangs, what do you think?
Re: Factory install hangs, what do you think?
In order to run the Rescue and Recovery software, the installer runs the installation file tvtrnr3.exe
So, if anything, you might want to check that all functions of R&R are there. If not, reinstall it. Also
try zeroing out your drive with activekilldisk before running the recovery CDs.

Thanks, I used DFT to erase the boot sector of the hard drive (didn't want to wait hours to zero it out, so I thought just erasing the boot sector might be good enough), and tried it again, and I didn't get the hang.
