Windows 7 x64 completely smokes every other previous OS on my T61p with 4GB RAM. The most noticeable improvement is in responsiveness, which is something I don't think benchmarks can catch.
When you open up office, or any other apps, it just snaps open. There are no "lags" like with Vista, no endless hard drive churning. And of course, unlike XP, its rock solid, stable, and looks beautiful.
So essentially, you get the speed and response of XP, the stability and eye candy of Vista.
Definitely worth the upgrade!

Windows 7 RTM smokes on a T61p
Re: Windows 7 RTM smokes on a T61p
It also probably feels fresher, because it is a new installation.

Re: Windows 7 RTM smokes on a T61p
I agree 100%! My X61s got a fresh Win 7 installation a few days ago. Even with Anti Virus now installed, plus every other stuff I had installed before with Vista 64 it feels much snappier.
The most visible part is suspend/resume, which is instantaneous. With Vista, the Desktop appeared pretty fast as well, but I couldn't use it really for a few seconds (mouse and keyboard were unresponsive).
I was happy with Vista before on my Laptop, and am even more happy now with Win 7. Now I hope the 120 days of the "trial" period are enough for the system builder packages to appear in the market...
Regards, Martin

Yes W7 really is nice on my T61p. Makes it feel almost like a totally new machine. Very snappy performance. Much better than Vista in countless ways.
